How many Hide My Email addresses can I have?

Apple gives no number. With an iCloud+ subscription, "You can create as many addresses as you need" (Create unique, random email addresses with Hide My Email and iCloud+, read 25 September 2026). That page, and the five other Apple pages on Hide My Email we read today, state no cap. The fixed numbers people quote belong to Apple's other kinds of address, which is where the confusion starts.

Apple's four kinds of extra address, and their limits

Hide My Email (iCloud+): random addresses on demand, no stated limit (above). You get them in Safari, Mail, Apple Pay and supported apps, and in Settings.
Hide My Email through Sign in with Apple: addresses at @privaterelay.appleid.com, and "only the app or website you created the account with can use this unique email address to communicate with you" (How to use Hide My Email with Sign in with Apple, read 25 September 2026).
iCloud Mail aliases: "you can create up to three @icloud.com email aliases". Delete one while you have three and "you must wait 7 days before you can create a new one", and aliases "cannot be changed, transferred or converted to primary accounts" (What are email aliases in iCloud Mail?, read 25 September 2026).
Custom email domain (iCloud+): "You can use up to five custom domains, with up to three personalized email addresses per domain" (Use Custom Email Domain with iCloud Mail, read 25 September 2026).

Adding it up ourselves: one primary iCloud address, three aliases and fifteen custom-domain addresses are the ones with a ceiling, and Hide My Email sits on top of those without one.

Where the mail actually lands

A Hide My Email address is a forwarder, not a mailbox. Mail sent to it "is forwarded to your personal email account: your iCloud Mail address or any email address associated with your Apple Account", and when you reply "your personal email address remains private" (the Create unique, random email addresses page). If the address it forwards to is a Gmail account, the newsletters you signed up for with these addresses all end up in Gmail. Deactivating and deleting are different

This is the real use of an unlimited supply: one address per site, switched off when that site starts misbehaving. Apple's rules (Stop using, reactivate or delete a Hide My Email address on iCloud.com, read 25 September 2026):

Once you stop using an address, "any emails sent to that address are returned to the sender" — the sender finds out it bounced.
You can reactivate it later.
"You can only delete inactive addresses", and deleting "is permanent" — "You cannot reactivate a deleted address."

In our view, deactivate and leave it there unless you are sure. A deleted address cannot come back for a password reset you did not see coming.

Finding the ones you already have

On iPhone: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Hide My Email lists them (the Create and manage Hide My Email addresses in Settings on iPhone page). On the web, icloud.com/icloudplus shows the same list, and "If you have five or more email addresses, you can search for an address" by name, label or where it was created (Create and edit Hide My Email addresses on iCloud.com, read 25 September 2026). What Apple's pages leave open

Hide My Email needs iCloud+, either yours or someone's in your Family Sharing group (Set up and use Hide My Email in iCloud+ on all your devices, read 25 September 2026). None of the Apple pages cited here say what happens to addresses you have already handed out if that subscription ends. If you rely on them for important accounts, that is worth asking Apple before you cancel rather than after.
