How do I cancel my Google One subscription?

Cancel in the place that bills you. Bought on the web or on Android: Google One → Settings → Cancel membership. Bought on an iPhone: cancel it as an App Store subscription. Your extra storage then lasts until the end of the billing period, not a day more. Everything below is from Google's cancellation page (Cancel your Google One membership, read 25 September 2026) unless another source is named.

The steps, by where you signed up

On a computer: go to Google One, click Settings → Cancel membership, then confirm with Cancel membership. "You should get a confirmation that your subscription is cancelled."
In the Android app: open Google One, tap Menu → Settings → Cancel membership, then confirm (the Android version of the page, read 25 September 2026).
On iPhone or iPad: in the Google One app, Menu → Membership plans → Manage plan → Cancel membership, which hands you to Apple's subscription screen; tap Cancel Subscription there (the iPhone & iPad version, read 25 September 2026). Apple's own route works too: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → the subscription → Cancel Subscription. Apple adds that "If there is no Cancel button or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled" (Cancel a subscription from Apple, read 25 September 2026).

Deleting the app cancels nothing. Google Play says so outright: "When you uninstall an app, your subscription won't cancel" (Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play, read 25 September 2026). If someone else manages your family plan, Google lists three ways out for a member: leave the family group, or ask the manager to cancel the plan or to turn off sharing.

What stops, and when

"You have until the end of the billing cycle to use them" — storage and benefits carry on to the end of the period you paid for. After that, you and any family members "lose access to your additional storage", and "Each person will keep their default storage of up to 15 GB at no charge". Money already paid usually stays paid: "In most countries or regions, Google storage plan purchases are non-refundable." App Store purchases go to Apple for refund questions.

If what you want is a smaller bill rather than none, the page offers that too: "If you don't want to cancel your membership, you can decrease storage instead."

The check to make before you cancel

Look at how much you are using. If it is more than 15 GB when the plan ends, the account does not shrink to fit; it stops working in places. Google lists what happens if you cancel "while you're using more than the default amount of storage":

Gmail: "You can't send or receive messages. Messages sent to you are returned to the sender."
Drive: "You can't sync or upload new files", and until usage comes down "no one can edit or copy your files".
Photos: "You can't back up any photos or videos."

The order that avoids bounced mail is: get under 15 GB first, then cancel. Finding what is using the space takes a minute.
