# How do I resubscribe to an email I unsubscribed from in Gmail? — Adinand Email Cleaner

**Sign up again with the sender, usually on their website or in your account settings there, then tell Gmail the mail is wanted by marking the next message "Not spam".** Gmail has no resubscribe button, because unsubscribing is a request that went to the sender, and only the sender's list can take you back. Gmail's part is smaller: after an unsubscribe it sends that sender's new mail to Spam, and that is the bit you undo on your side.

## What Gmail's Unsubscribe actually did
Gmail's own description of the aftermath, from its Manage subscriptions page: "When you unsubscribe from a sender, any new emails from them go to your spam folder. A banner on these emails explains why the emails are in spam." The same page's fix is one click: "To move emails from the sender back to your inbox, click Report not spam." ([*Manage your subscriptions in Gmail*](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/15621070), read 28 September 2026). Google's spam page names the banner: "You tried to unsubscribe from this sender", and says what to do: "If you don't want these emails sent to Spam, remove their email from Spam" ([*Report spam in Gmail*](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1366858), read 28 September 2026).

So there are two separate things to put back: your place on the sender's list, and Gmail's routing of that sender. Undoing one does not undo the other.

## Is there an undo in Gmail?
Not in the sense of cancelling the request. Google's two unsubscribe pages, *Unsubscribe from an email* and *Manage your subscriptions in Gmail*, describe how to unsubscribe and what happens next; neither describes a way to reverse the request once it is sent ([*Unsubscribe from an email*](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/15433283), read 28 September 2026; *Manage your subscriptions*, same date). When the documentation is silent we say so rather than guess: we found no Gmail control that re-subscribes you.

Two details from those pages make recovery easier than it sounds. Unsubscribing is not instant, "it may take a few days for you to stop receiving emails from the mailing list", so a quick change of mind may never have taken effect. And an unsubscribe from inside one email "might only unsubscribe you from a single mailing list from the sender", so other lists from the same company may still be arriving.

## Getting back on the list

**Go to the sender, not to Gmail.** Use the newsletter sign-up box or the email-preferences page in your account on their site, whichever they have. Signing up again is the resubscribe.

**Look for the confirmation.** If they send one, check Spam first, because of the routing described above.

**Mark it Not spam.** On a computer: open Spam, tick the message, click **Not spam**. Per Google's spam page, after you remove an email from Spam, "future emails from that sender won’t go to Spam".

**Optional: add them to Contacts or make a filter.** The same page says adding a sender to Google Contacts stops Gmail sending their messages to Spam, and a filter can label a sender's mail as important. [How filters work.](https://adinandemail.com/answers/gmail-filters)

Those steps are ours; the sender's own site decides what signing up again looks like.

## If you blocked them instead
Blocking is a different switch, and it is stickier. Google: "When you block a sender, even when you remove their emails from Spam, Gmail still automatically identifies their emails as spam" (the *Report spam in Gmail* page). You have to unblock first: open one of their messages, then More, then **Unblock**, or use Settings, **Filters and Blocked Addresses**, then "Unblock selected addresses". After that, "all future emails from them go to your inbox" ([*Block or unblock an email address in Gmail*](https://support.google.com/mail/answer/8151), read 28 September 2026). Blocking never unsubscribed you, so there may be nothing to resubscribe to.

## Next time
If you are unsure about a sender, a filter that archives it is easier to reverse than an unsubscribe. The trade-offs between the two are on [Is it OK to unsubscribe from emails?](https://adinandemail.com/answers/is-it-ok-to-unsubscribe-from-emails), and the unsubscribe routes themselves on [How to unsubscribe from emails in Gmail](https://adinandemail.com/answers/how-to-unsubscribe-from-emails-gmail).
